If I were to choose a
Llewellyn book worth of the detailed book provided here, it would be
either the Buddha Tarot or The Faery Wicca
Tarot. Since Llewellyn isn't listening to me on the FWT
(nudge, nudge, Llewellyn), I'll be temporarily assuaged with this.
The deck is exceptionally
well thought out, applying the story of and principle players in the
life of Buddha to the quasi-traditional interpretations of the classic
tarot deck.
The illustrations are
simple, yet vibrantly colorful and profound. After cooing over the
major arcana, I was a little disappointed in the minors, considering
that they are extremely sparse in illustration.
If a reader were not
familiar with Eastern philosophy or the life of Buddha, they would still
have an appreciation for the artwork, but the depth and levels of card
symbolism would likely be lost.
Enter the companion book,
which gently and completely explains the mythology and symbolism in each
card on a level that even a novice to this path could easily understand.
I recommend this not only
as a wonderful tarot deck, but also as a valuable teaching tool for the
life and philosophies of Buddha.
