Since I began reading the
Llewellyn sabbat series at Mabon, I've been consistently impressed not
only by the content and easy reading of each book, but by the appropriate
choice of authors to pen each one.
Amber K has been a favorite of
mine since her simple, concise and very complete introduction to magic,
True Magic.
She followed this success with the ambitious and extensive work
Covencraft, a complete guide to the awesome and often intimidating job
of running a coven. Her success continues with this glowing
investigation into a too often ignored holiday of Candlemas.
Exploring the extensive traditions and identities of the goddess Brigid,
as well as the festivals of February, the K's give life to this previously
unassuming and quiet holiday.
A complete compendium
including the recipes, traditions and lore of the season, this volume
represents more than a sufficient education for any practitioner on the
significance of this very special time, including the celebration of the
returning warmth to the land through detailed instruction in the making of
different kinds of candles. With an encouragement toward cleaning,
clearing and preparing for the coming light of the year, the seasonal
empowerment of this particular holiday is gently presented in a warm and
inviting fashion.
I fully recommend this and the
other sabbat books as a necessary inclusion in any Pagan library, not just
as a point of essential reference, but also as purely enjoyable reading.
