Homeopathy: An A to Z
Home Handbook

Let me
start off by stating that I know next to nothing about homeopathy – or I
didn’t until I read Mr. Schmukler’s book. Now? Well, if I had smallpox,
tetanus, rabies or some other big time health challenges that are covered
in the book, I’d probably want to see an M.D., but for some of the more
common ailments (and as preventatives for those and for the big guys) I’d
be happy to try homeopathic remedies.
Schmukler gives a nice, concise overview of homeopathy, its
history and science, along with a list of remedies and instructions for
their use in almost 200 widely varying ailments. There are extra
sections, too, on topics like the specific remedies for different organs,
how to use a repertory (that’s a book that lists symptoms and the
remedies that cure them – I learned that here, too), first aid for
different occupations and activities, an overview of homeopathy around the
world, and even how to concoct one’s own remedies.
Schmukler makes the point that while one might not
ordinarily suggest that laypersons try combating or preventing anthrax,
plague, and the like, these are not ordinary times. In survival
situations – or if you’re one of the 50 million Americans that has no
health insurance and is therefore prevented from taking part in
conventional treatment even if you wanted to – a handbook like this and a
few simple remedies allow one to act, even if imperfectly. That is
terrifically empowering and liberating for the individual. Homeopathy is
a safe – no danger of resistances developing or drug side effects –
effective, affordable (maybe 8 cents a dose) and readily available. You
don’t even have to have a definitive diagnosis to begin treatment of
symptoms. There is more to learn about homeopathy than is covered in this
book, but as an overview and survival kit, this is right on the mark.
I
don’t know about you, but I’m ready to buy a remedy kit.
