In this simple and, well, gentle,
book, Ms Morgan provides a delightful introduction to the world of the
Craft, leaving no stone unturned, but without diving deeply into what's
actually under any of those stones. While one might see the lack of
subject depth as an inherent weakness in the book, it actually works quite
well if viewed from the perspective of the typical "lay person" who has no
concept of what Witches or Wicca are all about. Avoiding the
frequent trap of overwhelming the newcomer, Simple Wicca gives just
enough information to keep the practitioner "safe" and within an
elementary level of practice without taking them to places best not
traveled by the novice with no way to escape.
Touching lightly on such topics as the
history of Witchcraft to a brief overview of frequently used Gods and
Goddesses to the ritual tools and on to basic ritual, this book guides the
reader through the easily navigatable waters of beginning Craft. The
book is infinitely readable, never stooping to a condescending tone, but
not becoming too Wiccan highbrow either. I would say this book is as
perfect an introduction to magic and Witchcraft as one could hope for and
I fully intend to included it on my required reading list for first level
students.
