Witchcraft An
Alternative Path

I have read a couple of Moura's other books,
Green Witchcraft and Green Magic, neither of which overly
impressed me. I wanted to give her another chance since the subject
seemed intriguing.
Her discussion of "What Witches Believe"
sounded arrogant to me at first, especially with the broad eclecticism of
Witchcraft, but she generalize sufficiently to leave room for nearly all
paths in The Craft.
She performed the miracle of navigating the
history of Witchcraft and never once mentioning any of the pioneers, such
as Adler, Buckland, the Farrars or Gardner. I found her brief
descriptions of the sabbats to be confusing with no real interconnectness
to one another.
Overall, the book was a bit dry and
disjointed, but the rituals themselves that she provides are lovely.
It's amazing that a person who has such a turn of a phrase in ritual tends
to fall flat in book writing.
I completely enjoyed the title of one of her
chapters which identified spellwork as "pro-active prayer," a concept that
stuck well with me. I have used the phrase quite a bit since reading
it.
Moura winds up the book by offering a
discussion of basically how Witches are, moving softly through the world
with a strong connection to the Divine.
Although I enjoyed this book much more than
the others I have read by her, I still find her writing to be a bit
cumbersome.
I give it:
